What are eligibility criteria?

Eligibility criteria are the guidelines describing the characteristics that all volunteers in a given clinical trial must share in order to participate. The criteria differ from study to study and may include age, gender, medical history or current health status.

The eligibility criteria are very important because they ensure that the right people enter the study, so the results will be as accurate as possible.
